To mark World Refugee Day on 20th June, Doras Luimní have organised a number of initiatives and events in Limerick to raise awareness of and support for refugees and migrants.
Events will take place from 15th to 20th June 2015 and include a pop-up café in Central Buildings; a free food and music event in Fitto café, Catherine Street; the launch of the Around the World in Limerick recipe collection; a film screening; and the Invisible Children installation at The Milk Market.
The line-up is as follows:
- Monday 15th June, 12pm – 2pm
Pop-up cafe at Central Buildings, O’Connell St, Limerick (ground floor). This will feature a display of refugee, direct provision and immigration related resources and information. - Wednesday 17th June, 4:30pm – 6:30pm
Free street Syrian barbeque outside Fitto cafe on Catherine Street - Wednesday 17th, 7:30pm – 9:30pm
Film screening in The Stormy Teacup, Foxes Bow, Limerick - Friday 19th June, 10am – 3pm
Invisible Children installation in Milk Market, Limerick. This demonstrates the reality of living in Direct Provision by replicating a typical family room in asylum seeker accommodation and highlights the physical, social and psychological impact on children in this environment.
