Doras Luimní will hold a Soap Box event at Bedford Row in Limerick city centre on 8th March 2016 from 12.30pm – 1.30pm to celebrate International Women’s Day and to raise awareness of exploitation experienced by some workers in care sectors, including for example domestic workers and Au Pairs.
We would also like to highlight inspirational women employers and others who have played significant roles to support women to move up the ladder or in times of difficulty. Employers who are inclusive of women workers’ circumstances for example, flexibility to accommodate childcare needs or where an employee was facing violence in the home.
Mariaam Bhatti, Community Development and Outreach Worker with Doras Luimní, said “Some employers go that extra mile to support people through exceptionally challenging circumstances and provide opportunities to retain employment, despite the temporary hardship. We would like to use this opportunity to mark International Women’s Day by acknowledging inspirational women employers as well as highlighting the particular difficulties experienced by women workers in certain sectors who continue to face exploitation.”
Join us on 8th March and help us to celebrate inspirational women in Limerick, nationwide and around the globe. You can contribute to the event by nominating an inspirational woman that you think deserves a special mention at our open mic soap box on the day.
If you would like to nominate an employer in Limerick that goes that extra mile to create a positive work environment, we will have surveys and information about the FAIR Work Standards Limerick campaign. The campaign will run until June 2016, from which a list will be compiled of Fair Employers in Limerick, highlighting workplaces that create positive working environments and decent standards for employees.
