Foundations for Work
Young migrant workers with low qualifications and workplace skills have been hit especially hard by the economic crisis. They are most likely to experience difficulties in accessing employment, and existing Vocational Education Training (VET) initiatives are often unsuitable for their needs. Foundations for Work (FfW) is a project designed to increase the basic competences of young immigrants to improve their job prospects and ability to benefit from mainstream training. Doras is one of six FfW partners in five countries collaborating to improve VET services for this group. As a result of the project, voluntary immigrant service and VET organisations have a methodology and resource pack tailored for use with young underachieving migrants. Through increased skills, adaptability and insertion into higher quality jobs, immigrants will have more opportunities to fulfil their potential in the labour market and benefit from mainstream training.
